Lijiang and Shangri-La

Itinerary
Day 1, Arrive in Lijiang
Arrive Lijiang and visit the old town of Naxi people built in the traditional wooden houses with small rivers running through the town. We will walk through the old town to see the Naxi houses, follow up the river to Black Dragon Pool where the water of the old town comes from, from here you can see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain if the weather is fine.  

Day 2, Village and Monastery
 Day in Lijiang to explore Naxi village and monastery. Drive to Puji village where we start to walk through the villages and climb up hill through pine forest for an hour before arriving Puji Monastery, a Tibetan Buddhism monastery built three hundred years ago with copper roofs. Not many people come here but we can meet a few lamas and locals who take care of the Monastery.
After the Monastery, we drive to Baisha village to visit the five hundred year old frescos, carry on to Yuhu village where the explorer Dr. Rock used to live for his research, it is a very beautiful Naxi village in front of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, visit the village and meet up with people.

Day 3, Tiger Leaping Gorge
Drive to visit the First Bend of the Yangtze where the Yangtze made a big turn, it’s also the place where the Red Army Crossed the Yangtze by ferry during the Long March, possible to see a market here, there is a market here every three days. Drive along the Yangtze to visit the Tiger Leaping Gorge which 19km long and with three very narrow parts, only 30ms from one side to another, it’s said someone saw a tiger jumped over the river and it’s named Tiger leaping Gorge since then. The Gorge has the drops of 3900m from top of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain to the Yangtze. O/n Tiger Leaping Gorge

Day 4, Drive to Shangri-La
Drive through the Tiger Leaping Gorge via Haba with terraced fields and carry on to Sanba to visit Baishuitai limestone terraces. Drive up hill to visit Yi villages, Yi is the biggest ethnic group in Yunnan, most of them live in the high mountain with forest and farmland, as it’s cold in winter here, they only have one season of harvest in summer, and in winter people just stay at home to enjoy the time with family and friends. Carry on to Shangri-La and visit the old part of Shangri-La to see the biggest praying in the world.

Day 5, Shangri-La and fly to Kunming
Visit Sungtzeling Monastery, a yellow hat sect Tibetan Buddhist Monastery named as Small Potala, it was built by the Fifth Dalai Lama on a hillside, looks like the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It’s the home of 500 lamas from the Kham, there are eight temples for lamas from different areas, lamas support by their families to study and practice here. Visit Napa Lake and Tibetan villages near the Lake. Visit Ringsha Temple, this is the first temple built in the area, small and quite, seldom visited by tourists but very popular among the local Tibetans, esp. at the Chinese New Year, thousands of people will come. In the temple, we can see how Tibetans make the praying flags; you can also buy some praying flags and hang them over the mountain behind the temple to get your good luck. Overnight hotel and tour ends
