Around 16 km in length, the gorge is located where the river passes between 5,596 metres Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and 5,396 metres Haba Snow Mountain in a series of rapids under steep 3000 metres cliffs. It is one of the deepest gorge in the world. It is deeper than 1500 metres Three Gorge and famouse 2400 metres Hell Canyan of America. In the gorge, gap rocks everywhere, there are 21 dangerous shoals and 10 waterfalls. Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point (still 25 metres wide), hence the name.
